Donate and help PRS raise awareness and funds for direct access into its therapeutic service and enable treatment, support and recovery to any individuals that has suffered the horrific effects of childhood sexual abuse.
There is now a widely recognised need to deliver better support for adult survivors of childhood sexual abuse. Survivors require easier access to a wide range of services, and have a right to expect appropriate responses to their treatment and recovery. The Strategy is informed by previous and current research, and builds on a comprehensive report, which examined the care needs of people who survived childhood sexual abuse.
The fund is first and foremost for the benefit of, and in the interests of, adult survivors of childhood sexual abuse. The key emphasis is on rebuilding and improving the lives of survivors.
Definitions: What do we mean by Childhood Sexual Abuse?
Child sexual abuse “is defined as the involvement of a child in sexual activity that he or she does not fully comprehend, is unable to give informed consent to, or for which the child is not developmentally prepared, or else that violates the laws and social taboos of society. Children can be sexually abused by both adults and other children who are – by virtue of their stage of development – in a position of responsibility, trust or power over the victim” (World Health Organisation, 1999). This may include but is not limited to:
♦ The inducement or coercion of a child to engage in any unlawful sexual activity
♦ The exploitative use of a child in prostitution or other unlawful sexual practices
♦ The exploitative use of children in pornographic performances and materials
Sexual abuse is sexually, physically and emotionally abusive. It breaches the personal boundaries to which all human beings are entitled.
